It's also awfully slippery: Which reality is thee supposed to be in touch with, anyway? Much more important is what it seems thee has already, a trusted community with which thee can test the movement of the Divine in thee.

The fear thee mentions, on the other hand.... I've come to believe that, for whatever inscrutable reasons God has, struggling with fear is an essential component of prophetic witness. "Fear not," says the angel to Mary; and if she has any sense, now she really starts to get scared!

On the other hand, "A gift that is not exercised festers. (Okay, some people will wonder about you, but that's always true of prophetic witnesses.)

Yes, Friends are called to prophetic witness. Thank you for reminding us we are here now, today, looking at what's ahead. Yes, we can and must look back to the past, but we face different circumstances, and so the Spirit will lead us in new ways, if we remain open and turn toward the Inward Light (as Friends have done over and over in the past).

As a fellow meeting clerk, this post resonates with me greatly. But we can only fully experience the Presence and the Joy if we follow anyway. It sounds like that's what you did.

I can recall a time in a YM session when I felt called to share. What I felt called to say was not directly on point to the proposed minute on the floor. The Clerk stopped me and said I must speak to the minute and could not give ministry. I had to respond that I did not feel released. The body overrode the Clerk and insisted I be allowed to finish. This was aided by friends of mine who were praying for me in the rear of the room.

That was a very uncomfortable time.Bill Samuelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00752443575410023776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33598850.post-31822409271063202712009-10-02T09:15:31.562-07:002009-10-02T09:15:31.562-07:00Thank you! I've been exploring polarity and wholeness work - it's so fascinating - through holding two interdepdendent opposites together like 'being' and 'doing' we can step into wholeness. And I'm so interseted as a friend (just came back to friends after about a 20 year break!) at how 'integral' paradox, polarity and wholeness is to our faith and practice.Bethhttp://practicalmysticmusings.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33598850.post-40600173000213025692009-09-19T23:40:03.412-07:002009-09-19T23:40:03.412-07:00Some songs might help.
